Place Versailles: a History
50 Years Strong
This year, Place Versailles marks its 50th anniversary and there’s a whole lot to celebrate! The million-square-foot community center has been a retail darling for a half-century and remains a welcome home to over 225 businesses and all the savvy shopper’s odds and ends.
A Benchmark of Design
The marble decor floods with light, providing an open space that’s leaps and bounds beyond your average promenade. Two of our five stunning fountains were designed by Mexican sculptor Augusto Escobedo while another is the first “graphic” fountain in North America (capable of spelling out phrases such as “Bon appetite” or even names of passersby)! What other shopping centre houses such unique works of art?
Built in 1963, Place Versailles is Montreal’s first indoor shopping centre and over the years has gone through many significant phases of development. We’re a cherished community landmark that’s kept up to speed with a growing neighbourhood. We’ve seen it all: from Miracle Mart in the ‘60s to Canadian Tire today!
Accessible and Accommodating
With our 4 000 parking spaces plus the Radisson metro station and bus stop right at our doorstep, Place Versailles is easily accessible to all, further accommodating your shopping experience.
